Awarded annually to 12 qualifying public libraries in Vermont and New Hampshire, the Rural Library Grant is designed is to help small-town libraries create excitement around literacy, update the collection, increase circulation, and strengthen the library’s connection with the community.

The meeting was designed as a “workshop,” in which ideas were exchanged and debated in a conversational style rather than as formal proposals and motions.

In 1837, Thomas Davenport obtained the first American patent for an electric motor—a device he built in his workshop in Forestdale with his wife, Emily, and her cousin Orange Smalley.
