PROCTOR — A 34-year-old Virginia resident who hails from a small town and has served in the U.S. Navy will start his job as Proctor’s new town manager on Monday, Aug. 30.
The Proctor selectboard named Michael Ramsey of Waynesboro, Virginia, as the new town manager at its Aug. 3 meeting after poring over the resume’s of about 40 applicants, said Interim Selectboard Chair Judy Frazier, adding that Ramsey stood out from the start.
The selectboard approved an annual salary of $68,000, covers $1,500 in moving expenses, and puts him on a town-paid MVP Gold Plan, as are other town employees. Former town manager Stan Wilbur has served as interim manager since Greg Maggard resigned this past April. Wilbur said he would remain available to ease the transition with Ramsey.
Ramsey, who served aboard the USS Blue Ridge in Japan, earned a degree in environmental studies from Randolph College in Lynchburg, Virginia and has a master’s degree in public administration from Ohio University. He currently works as the senior utility operations coordinator for the city of Waynesboro overseeing a $3 million budget for the Public Works Department and he coordinates large-scale capital improvement projects.
He and his partner have enjoyed vacationing in Vermont at campgrounds and they enjoy the outdoors, he said, adding he enjoyed being in the snow and was looking forward to the cooler weather.
