Otters field hockey is heating up

BRANDON — The Otters field hockey team took on Rutland on Saturday, Sept. 14. The Otters brought a 1-1 record into the game against the 2-2-1 Raiders. The Otters jumped into the lead early and their defense held to give them the 3-1 win.

Ryleigh LaPorte scored off a Brittney Jackson pass at 13:33 in the first half to give OV the early lead. Jackson put two more in before the end of the half, one off a pass from Alia Edmunds, the other unassisted.

Rutland got on the board with a minute left in the half with Alexis Patterson scoring off a Stefanie Allen pass. Rutland’s Jessica Ebbinghausen and Zoey Urich split time in the cage and had 7 saves. OV’s Ellie Ross had 8 saves.

OV traveled to Middlebury on Tuesday, Sept. 17 to take on the 2-2-1 Tigers. The first half was a defensive struggle for the two teams and the Otters ended the first half with a 1-0 lead on a goal by Brittney Jackson off a Mackenzie McKay assist.

The game opened up in the second half as the Otters offense took over with two goals from Ryleigh LaPorte, Alia Edmunds had a goal and an assist, and Riley Keith had a goal and two assists. Jackson added her second goal late and Morgan LaPorte also got in on the scoring.

Middlebury’s Ileigh Aube had 19 saves and OV’s Ellie Ross had no saves. 

The Otters travel to Springfield on Saturday.
