Body found in Proctor

PROCTOR — Police are investigating after a woman’s body was found in a car parked alongside a road in Proctor.

On Tuesday, Rutland police were notified of a missing woman, Alicia Harrington. Harrington’s red 2004 Subaru Impreza was also reported missing.

At 8:05 a.m. on Wednesday morning, Vermont State Police were notified that a vehicle matching the description of Harrington’s was found on Florence Road in Proctor, with a woman’s body inside. The VSP Crime Scene Search Team responded to the scene.

The identity of the woman is being withheld at this time, pending an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death and the identity of the victim.

According to the press release, the state police and the Rutland City Police are pursuing multiple leads. Anyone with any information is asked to call the state police’s Rutland barracks of at 802-773-9101.

Shortly before 10 p.m. on Wednesday night a press release from the Vermont State Police warned residents to avoid the intersection of Beaver Pond Road and Florence Road in Proctor and north to West Creek Road and Humphrey Road in Pittsford.

The release stated the road would be closed for a criminal investigation until further notice. Police said specific details were not available and updates would be provided as appropriate.

Police said the road was once again opened at 12:40 p.m.
