BRANDON — Christopher D. B. Root, aged 65, died Saturday, February 16, 2019 at the McClure Miller Respite House in Colchester.
Mr. Root was born in Stamford, Conn. on Sept.23, 1953. He was the son of Louis and Eleanor (Funk) Root. He grew up in York, Penn. where he received his early education. He spent summers in Southampton, N.Y. with his grandparents, playing tennis at the Meadow Club, and swimming in the ocean with his friends at the Beach Club. He attended Saint Paul’s Preparatory School in Concord, N.H. and continued his high school education at the Uppingham School in Leicestershire, England. He then attended the Inchbald School of Design in London. He cherished his time spent in England, and often spoke fondly of the memories he made with his older brother, Todd.
He started his career in New York City where he worked for the Dancer Fitzgerald Sample advertising agency. He went on to join the family business, New York Wire Company in York, Penn., where he worked in sales and marketing.
He retired to Brandon, Vt. in 1999, and manifested his passion for fine arts, antiques and interior design in a home décor store he opened in the town center. He loved history, language, music and art and had a keen eye for nuance and beauty. He was an accomplished poet and expressed his creativity in many ways.
Surviving are his wife Kathryn “Cassie” Root of Brandon, whom he married in Lancaster, Penn. on Dec. 12, 1987; two daughters Kathryn “Kate” Hamill of Baltimore, Md. and Kirsten Demarest Root of Winooski; two brothers, Francis Jerome Root III of Guernsey in the Channel Islands, and Peter Todd Root of Waynesville, N.C. He was predeceased by his parents, Bud and Joan Root.
The graveside committal service and burial will take place, at a later date, at the Southampton Cemetery in Southampton, N.Y.
