“When you have people coming to Pittsford from the Northeast Kingdom, you can’t ask them to drive 3 hours, be in class for 8 hours, then drive 3 hours back. The new dorm will help make training easier.”
Brandon SB filled with energy, hazards, police wages, and a split vote on vacant seat
The Town Hall meeting room had a sizeable crowd on hand Monday night as Brandon’s selectboard covered a variety of topics, including a report from Brandon Energy Committee Chair Jim Emerson and a presentation from Rutland Regional Planning Commission’s Stephanie Bourque about the local hazard mitigation plan as well as a critical executive session dealing with the police union contract and filling the board’s vacant seat.
Pittsford SB moves ahead with new sidewalks
The Pittsford selectboard met for nearly two hours last Wednesday night to discuss several ongoing issues with sidewalks and the West Creek culvert project, as well as to gain some clarification about the ongoing Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) recently awarded to the Pittsford Village Farm.
BIPOC hair clinic seeks to fill a need
Following the success of their Juneteenth hair clinic, the Rutland area NAACP recently announced dates for a back-to-school hair clinic for local BIPOC youth on Sunday, September 4, from 12-5 in Castleton.
Dorset Theatre Festival closes season with world premiere of Ronán Noone’s ‘Thirst’
The Dorset Theatre Festival’s 45th Season of professional summer theatre will conclude with the world premiere of Thirst, written by Irish-American playwright Ronán Noone and directed by the Festival’s resident playwright, Theresa Rebeck.

Mt. Abraham cruises past Otter boys in nail-biter, 57-42
The Mount Abraham boys basketball team took a trip down Route 7 for a clash with Otter Valley in a Saturday afternoon matinee at the “House of Noise” and used their size and speed to claim the win, 57-42.
Otter Valley wins on Senior Night
The Otter women welcomed the Wasps of Woodstock to Senior Night at the “House of Noise” on Friday, February 11 before a raucous crowd.
Otter Valley defeats Hartford, 36–34
The Otter Valley girls basketball team defeated the visiting Hartford Hurricanes, 36-34, on Friday, January 28 at the “House of Noise” in Brandon.
OV, Proctor, Westside winter sports teams kick-off the season
The COVD-shortened winter of the 2020-21 high school sports season is behind us, and the teams at Otter Valley are happy about that. The pandemic forced the school’s basketball programs, like those elsewhere, to play abbreviated seasons, and wrestling was sidelined for the entire season.
OV girl’s basketball drops opener
In a hard-fought season opening game in which the teams traded game-changing runs, the host Middlebury Union girls’ basketball team put together the decisive surge to outlast Otter Valley, 35-28.
