BRANDON –– Rockfest came back to town for its second year of music, food and activities at Estabrook Park on Saturday, Aug. 7 from noon until 10 p.m. About 400 people, the same turnout as last year, came together to listen to several bands that played throughout the day and into the night.
Fans came to listen to the band Kennedy Park featuring Osten Ladd, 17, from Brandon, Ben Atherton, 17, from Brandon and Gunnar Tinsman, 17, from Pittsford; as well as Red Dice featuring Atherton, Daniel Larsen, 17, also of Brandon; and MOXIE, featuring David Cohen, Daniel Snyder and Rei Kimura, all from Brattleboro.
“It was a very nice day,” said Recreation Director Assistant Colleen Wright. “Rockfest follows the Brandon Rec. initiative to get kids outside, moving and being active.”
For $10 per person or $5 with a coupon provided by Carter Insurance Agency, the fun events were two 20-foot inflatable water slides courtesy of Sky High Slides out of Barre and a 20-foot inflatable obstacle course with barrels and a ‘rock wall.’
Rockfest also gave out free books and participated in “Cards for Soldiers,” a program that sends deployed soldiers letters through the Brandon Area Toy Project, which sponsored the festival along with Carter Insurance Agency and the Brandon Recreation Department.
“It was a great day to get kids outside and to help young musicians have a place to perform,” said Wright.
