In Pittsford-Proctor (Rutland-8), Alicia Malay (R) has been elected to the seat being vacated by long-time Representative Butch Shaw.
Nielsen beats incumbent Democratic Rep. Jerome in Brandon House race
Brandon voters replaced 3-term Democratic incumbent Stephanie Jerome with Republican newcomer Todd Nielsen after a bruising campaign season in which taxes and affordability remained at the fore of many Vermonters’ minds.
OV football stuns BFA Fairfax; will play division championship
Last Saturday, in a show of outstanding football, the Otter Valley Otters defeated the BFA Fairfax Bullets in a show of stellar offense and gutsy defense. On a raw day with occasional sleet, a crowd of 300 showed up in Fairfax to witness the semifinal game which looked to be a sure thing for the Bullets, who were undefeated at 10-0 versus the Otters at 5-4.
After 36 years of service, Steve Cijka retires as Brandon’s wastewater chief
Brandon has 22 miles of sewer pipes and Steve Cijka has been responsible for every last inch of them since July 5, 1988. Whenever a Brandonite takes a shower, washes their dishes, or uses the restroom, Mr. Cijka has made sure that the wastewater thus generated is collected and treated before being released back into the wild.
Brandon Budget meeting focuses on process
After last budget season’s conflicts and disappointments, the Brandon Budget Committee and the Brandon Selectboard are taking a different approach to their task this year.

Eagles pull away to topple OV in high scoring battle, 44-20
The Mount Abraham-Vergennes cooperative football team converted seven Otter Valley turnovers into 30 points on Saturday as the Division II Eagles won for the time this season, 44-20, at the visiting Otters’ expense.
OV field hockey starts fast, blanks host Tigers 5-0
When the Middlebury and Otter Valley union high school field hockey teams met in the 2020 Division II playoffs the Otters prevailed in double overtime.
Proctor and West Rutland fall sports start Aug. 19
West Rutland High School and Proctor High School are starting their fall sports on Aug. 19. These sports are varsity boys and girls soccer and a bass fishing team.
