U.S. Rep. Peter Welch, D-Vt., far and away led the pack in congressional campaign fundraising last quarter. And in the race to fill Welch’s soon-to-be vacant seat, Democratic Lt. Gov. Molly Gray outpaced Senate President Pro Tempore Becca Balint, D-Windham.
Proctor to hold ice fishing festival for kids, Feb. 26
In an event similar to last spring’s, a special kid’s ice fishing festival will be held at Proctor’s Beaver Pond on February 26, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
No contested races for school board seats at OVUUSD, BUUSD
As Town Meeting Day elections approach, the school boards representing the Otter Valley Unified Union School District and Barstow Unified Union School District have no contested races and have open seats with no candidates named on the respective ballots.
Proctor group aims for new playground adjacent to rink
The Proctor selectboard approved a request from Megan Cannucci, who manages the town ice skating and rolling skating rinks, to appeal to the Mortimer Proctor Fund for playground equipment that would be located adjacent to the skating rinks.
Pittsford eyes broadband for all
A presentation to the Pittsford Selectboard by the Otter Creek Consolidated Communications District asked the panel to consider allocating ARPA funds to broadband infrastructure in the community.

Mt. Abraham cruises past Otter boys in nail-biter, 57-42
The Mount Abraham boys basketball team took a trip down Route 7 for a clash with Otter Valley in a Saturday afternoon matinee at the “House of Noise” and used their size and speed to claim the win, 57-42.
Otter Valley wins on Senior Night
The Otter women welcomed the Wasps of Woodstock to Senior Night at the “House of Noise” on Friday, February 11 before a raucous crowd.
Otter Valley defeats Hartford, 36–34
The Otter Valley girls basketball team defeated the visiting Hartford Hurricanes, 36-34, on Friday, January 28 at the “House of Noise” in Brandon.
OV, Proctor, Westside winter sports teams kick-off the season
The COVD-shortened winter of the 2020-21 high school sports season is behind us, and the teams at Otter Valley are happy about that. The pandemic forced the school’s basketball programs, like those elsewhere, to play abbreviated seasons, and wrestling was sidelined for the entire season.
OV girl’s basketball drops opener
In a hard-fought season opening game in which the teams traded game-changing runs, the host Middlebury Union girls’ basketball team put together the decisive surge to outlast Otter Valley, 35-28.
