LETTER TO THE EDITOR
The Brandon selectboard regrets to inform the townspeople of the resignation of our Chief of Police, Christopher Brickell, after 17 years of exemplary service. We have continually called upon Chief Brickell to work with members of our community at their worst moments, often in times of crisis, and he has always done so with patience, dignity, and integrity.
Chief Brickell has been the model of professionalism as he has led his department through challenges in recruiting, budget funding, and the changing law enforcement climate, extending even to an examination of the fundamental nature of policing in 21st-century America. His published commentary following George Floyd’s death comes to mind as illustrative of Chief Brickell’s quiet and calm courage in being respectful and reflective rather than defensive in emotionally-charged contexts. His many strengths have been recognized by his peers who elevated him to leadership positions in the Vermont Association of Chiefs of Police. He has always represented Brandon in a way that should make Brandon citizens proud.
We wish Chris every success in his future endeavors and express our deep gratitude for all the effort, energy, and time that he has contributed to the protection of the lives and property of the people of Brandon. More than that, we appreciate him for who he is: a gracious gentleman and a public servant of the very highest quality.
Respectfully submitted,
Seth Hopkins, chair of selectboard
