Brandon Toy Project teams with Imagination Library to give books to kids

BRANDON — The Brandon Area Toy Project announced a collaboration this week with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library for the children in Brandon and Sudbury.

The Imagination Library is an organization that mails a book each month to families with children between birth and five years of age at no cost to the family.

“Reading is essential to success,” said organizer Colleen Wright. “Children with access to books on a daily basis will recognize words earlier, and engage more closely with the person reading to them.”

This same program facilitated by the Ilsley Library in Middlebury, covers Addison County children.

“Technology is wonderful, but nothing will ever replace the feel of paper in a child’s hand, and the soothing repetition of familiar words,” she continued. “And, who doesn’t like to receive something in the mail each month.”

The Toy Project will begin fundraising for this program soon and there will be sign ups available at Spooksville on Oct. 25 at Estabrook Park in Brandon.
