Six members of the Otter Valley baseball and softball teams were selected to the 2019 All-MVL teams, and OV softball coaches Kelly Trayah and Toni Poalino were selected as MVL Coaches of the Year.
On the baseball diamond, seniors Josh Beayon, Reilly Shannon, Patrick McKeighan and Nate Hudson were selected for first team All-MVL status. Alex Polli, a sophomore, was given honorable mention for his work behind the plate. Beayon was also selected for the Twin State team, where Vermont’s best seniors face off against the best seniors from New Hampshire.
The baseball team lost only one game during the regular season and went into the playoffs as the number one seed. They rolled their way easily through the rounds until they were upset in the state finals by Fair Haven.
From the softball team, OV players Livia Bernhardt and Josie Cone were selected to the All-MVL team. Isabella Falco, Stephanie Palmer and Shayla Phillips were given honorable mention and co-coaches Kelly Trayah and Toni Poalino were selected as the MVL Coaches of the year.
Trayah and Poalino had big shoes to fill coming into the year. They took over for Otter legend Pattie Candon, who coached the OV squad for 33 years and retired after last season. They brought a philosophy similar to that of Candon, of being in the right place and doing your job, and took a young team all the way to the state finals.
In tennis, both Evelyn Bart and Brenna McCullough were selected for honorable mention.
