In Brandon’s one contested race during Town Meeting Day voting, incumbent Selectman Timothy Guiles won re-election to a three-year term over first-time challenger Marielle Blais in a fairly tight race, 466-396.

Seven species and three critical habitats received updated conservation designations on Vermont’s Endangered and Threatened Species List, including the highly anticipated de-listing of the bald eagle after over a decade of restoration efforts.
Schools with 80% vaccination rate can remove masks Feb. 28
Masking in schools — among the last remaining Covid mitigation measures in place for students — will soon be optional for schools with a student vaccination rate of over 80%, Governor Phil Scott announced at his regular press conference Tuesday, Feb. 15.
Zion Growers pursues Marble building
In addition to planning for the annual Town Meeting, Feb. 28-March 1, the Proctor selectboard heard an update on plans to revitalize the former Marble Museum complex at 52 Main Street by Zion Growers, which would operate an industrial hemp processing facility.

Two OV seniors named to 2022 North-South All-Star football roster
Keevon Parks and Caleb Whitney were recently named to the South team’s roster for this year’s North-South All-Star game to be held at Norwich University on November 20.
Otter golfers win back-to-back Division II state titles
Sparked by a medalist performance by sophomore Lucas Politano, the Otter Valley Union High School boys’ golf team claimed its second consecutive Division II championship on Thursday, Oct. 13.
OV field hockey snags 3-0 victory over Middlebury
The host Otter Valley field hockey team struck for two first-quarter goals against visiting Middlebury on Thursday, Oct. 6, and did enough the rest of the way to earn a 3-0 victory.
OV golfers qualify for 2022 Division II state tournament
The 2021 Division II champion Otter Valley boys’ golf team qualified to defend its title on Thursday, Oct. 6, by finishing second in the qualifying tournament on the Otters’ home course, Neshobe Golf Club.
OV girls’ soccer extends winning streak to four games
One of the hallmarks of great teamwork is communication. This is true in business and relationships, as well as in sports, and it has been a big part of the OV girls’ soccer team’s three-game win streak coming into Friday’s showdown with Springfield—including a 7-0 lambasting of Mill River on September 28.
