SUMMARY:"The Farm Boy\," movie at the Brandon Town Hall
DESCRIPTION:George Woodard is a 3rd generation dairy farmer up in Waterbury. He still lives on the family farm\, purchased by his grandfather back in 1912. He’s mostly retired from farming now—“I still milk one cow”—and has turned his attention once again to something he’s done on and off for years: filmmaking. His latest film\, “The Farm Boy\,” will be shown on Friday\, April 28 at 6:30 p.m. at Brandon Town Hall. \n“The Farm Boy” is Woodard’s second full-length feature\, after “The Summer of Walter Hacks\,” which he filmed in 2004 and released in 2010 (it’s hard to find time to edit a film when you still have a herd of 25 cows to milk). Both films star Woodard’s son\, Henry\, who filmed “Walter Hacks” as an 11-year-old and “The Farm Boy” as an adult. In “The Farm Boy\,” Henry Woodard plays Calvin Dillard\, a young man who drives a milk truck for his father in rural Vermont during World War II. He marries a girl named Mary (played by Grace Woodruff) he met at a dance\, yet barely has time to settle into marriage when he’s drafted and sent to war in Belgium. While in Europe\, he meets another woman\, Renée (Coco Moseley)\, and his experiences with her change him in profound ways.

SUMMARY:Martha Molnar @ Phoenix Books Rutland
DESCRIPTION:Please join us from 6:30–8 p.m. for an evening with Vermont author Martha Molnar for a discussion of her new book Playing God in the Meadow. \n\n\n\n\nAfter decades of fantasizing and saving\, of working multiple jobs and embracing frugality in the midst of Manhattan\, Martha Leb Molnar and her husband had found their parcel of land. Determined to turn an overgrown and unproductive Vermont apple orchard into a thriving and beautiful landscape\, they decided to restore this patch of land to a pristine meadow and build a safe haven for their family and nearby wildlife. \n\n\n\n\nOnce they cleared the gnarled and dying trees away\, Molnar was forced to wage war on the invasive species\nthat had sprung up around the property. Propelled by the heated debates surrounding non-native species and\nher own complicated family history and migration\, she was driven to research the Vermont landscape\, turning to scientific literature\, experts in botany and environmental science\, and locals who have long tended the land in search of answers. \n\n\n\n\nAt turns funny\, thoughtful\, and conversational\, Playing God in the Meadow follows this big city transplant as she learns to make peace with rural life and an evolving landscape that she cannot entirely control. \n\n\n\n\nThis event is free and open to all\, but advance registra- tion is appreciated. Please register below. \nCopies of Playing God in the Meadow will be available for sale at the event. Can’t make it to the event but still want to purchase a signed\, personalized copy? Please call 802-855-8078. Signed copies will be available after the event on April 4th. If you ordered a book for store pick up\, we will contact you as soon as it’s ready. If you ordered a book with shipping\, please allow an addition- al 7-10 days for delivery.
