SUMMARY:The Joy of the Just
DESCRIPTION:Bald Mountain Theater puts on ‘laugh-out-loud’ play. Bald Mountain Theater presents “The Joy of the Just” by John Gardner on Thursday and Friday\, July 7-8\, at 7:30 p.m.\, and Saturday\, July 9\, at 2 and 7:30 p.m.\, at Spice Studio in Rochester. \nWhen elderly Aunt Ella gets involved in a he-said\, she-said battle of wills with the new Preacher and finds no one believes or cares about her side of the story\, she takes the matter of God’s punishment into her own hands. One of the finest short stories by John Gardner\, author of “Grendel” and “Vlempk the Box Painter\,” “The Joy of the Just” will be adapted and performed by master reader and Artistic Director Ethan Bowen. Accompanying Bowen will be pianist Susan Bushnell and a mini church choir. The featured hymns will provide not only atmosphere but witty\, tongue-in-cheek commentary on the story’s events. “This laugh-out-loud funny story paints a rich picture of small-town Middle America with characters that feel all too real\,” said managing director Killian White.“ Aunt Ella delivers the vengeance you wouldn’t dare seek in your own life — with both hilarious and disastrous consequences.” \nAll tickets are $15\, available at the door and at baldmountaintickets.ludus.com. Streaming will be available in partnership with TheaterEngine. \nGo to baldmountaintheater.org for more information.

SUMMARY:Marquise Knox and Seth Walker
DESCRIPTION:The Next Stage Bandwagon Summer Series presents a twin bill pairing Marquise Knox and Seth Walker for a double dose of deep blues\, roots\, and rhythm. \nBorn in St. Louis\, Missouri\, Marquise Knox hails from a musical family deeply rooted in the Blues. He learned to play guitar from his grandmother Lillie\, and also played with his uncle Clifford\, who was a major influence in Marquise’s life. For Marquise\, Blues is his heritage and a way of life. He spent his early teenage years in St. Louis mentoring under the late great Blues legend\, NEA Heritage Fellowship recipient\, and Grammy Award winner Henry James Townsend. Marquise’s talents have earned him performing rights with some of America’s most notable blues performers\, including blues legends B.B. King\, Pinetop Perkins\, and David “Honeyboy” Edwards (the latter two also NEA Heritage Fellows). He has performed at dozens of festivals\, and toured throughout Europe. \nKnox’s debut album MANCHILD was nominated for a Blues Music Award for Best New Artist Debut. The album was recorded when he was 16\, with world-renowned guitarist Michael Burks and his band. \nOver the last decade\, Seth Walker has become recognized as one of the most revered Americana artists in the United States; a three dimensional talent who combines a gift for melody and lyric alongside a rich\, Gospel-drenched\, Southern-inflected voice with a true blue knack for getting around on the guitar. \nThe Bandwagon Summer Series is a family-friendly outdoor cultural performance series running from early May through mid-October\, at venues throughout Windham County. \nCo-presented with Vermont Blues Society
