SUMMARY:Deppman Law Estate Planning Presentation
DESCRIPTION:Everyone has an estate\, consisting of everything you own: your car\, home\, other real estate\, checking and savings accounts\, investments\, life insurance\, furniture\, personal possessions. Estate planning is making a plan in advance\, naming the people or organizations you want to receive the things you own after you die\, and taking steps now to make carrying out your plan as easy as possible later. \nThe presentation begins at 3:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of the Shoreham Congregational Church. \nWhile some websites can suggest steps in creating an estate\, it is good to have the information from some professionals first hand\, and to learn if your own plans should be reviewed. So come and learn from these professionals. This presentation is free and open to the public — all are welcome and urged to attend.

SUMMARY:Antje Duvekot and The Sea The Sea
DESCRIPTION:Next Stage Arts Project and Twilight Music present an evening of contemporary folk music with Antje Duvekot and The Sea The Sea. \nAntje Duvekot is a German- born\, American-raised singer/ songwriter whose songs have been critically praised for their hard-won wisdom\, dark-eyed realism\, and street-smart romanticism. Her bicultural upbringing and relative newness to English have helped shape her unique way with a song\, giving her a startlingly original poetic palette. They are the keys to the powerful\, even revolutionary\, empathy that informs everything she writes. She has won some of the top songwriting awards including the Grand Prize in the John Lennon Songwriting Competition\, the Kerrville Folk Festival Best New Folk Award and the Boston Music Award for Outstanding Folk Act. \n\n\n\nSince the release of her debut studio CD “Big Dream Boulevard\,” which was voted #1 Folk Release of 2006 by the Boston Globe and was named to the Top 10 Releases of the Year by National Public Radio’s Folk Alley\, Antje has been touring extensively\, criss-crossing the US and Europe. She is a compelling live performer and has played at major festivals\, including Newport\, Mountain Stage\, Philadelphia\, Falcon Ridge\, Great Waters\, and Kerrville. Antje’s most recent studio release\, “Toward the Thunder\,” centers around themes of courage\, resilience and striving for something better\, and as with most of her writing\, a sense of hope and perseverance shines through the songs. \n\n\n\nThe Sea The Sea is the upstate New York-based indie folk/pop duo Chuck E. Costa and Mira Costa. They have garnered features across all music platforms\, including Apple Music “Best of the Week” and “A-List Singer/ Songwriter\,” and appeared on live performance broad- casts of Mountain Stage\, Audiotree\, and Paste Music/ Daytrotter. The group’s 2020 release “Stumbling Home\,” dubbed “otherworldly” by Rolling Stone magazine\, marks the duo’s third full-length album.

SUMMARY:Swedish Sancta Lucia Festival
DESCRIPTION:The legend of Saint Lucia tells the story of her bringing food to the Christians hiding in the catacombs and wearing a crown of candles on her head to help light her way; freeing her to carry food with both hands. Lucia Day is traditionally celebrated on December 13th\, which in the old Julian calendar was the darkest day of the year and the light of Lucia pointed the way up out of the way of darkness. Due to Covid\, it has been rescheduled to January\, but within the 12 days of Christmas prior to the Epiphany. \nThe pageant is directed by Mr. Rustan Swenson\, a native of Sweden\, and now living in Middlebury. He has directed this pageant in Middlebury and Orwell in previous years\, with George Matthew Jr. on the piano and the church’s historic pipe organ. The daughters of Jenny & Rev. Mark Orten\, chaplain of Middlebury College\, along with Ainsleigh Linnea and Nellie Pierce\, will be singing in Swedish in the pageant\, with Rebecca Orten as St. Lucia.

SUMMARY:Climate Change Meet-Up
DESCRIPTION:The latest report from UN Climate Change shows that countries around the world are failing to meet their emissions reduction goals and locking the world into an increasingly certain chaotic climate future. Join 350VT\, a statewide grassroots network\, to explore how Vermont is doing and how we can do our part to build collective power for climate justice (check out CEAC’s recently released report on Addison County’s emissions). \nIn 2023\, there are two significant areas where Vermont can make significant progress toward a just transition off carbon-based fuels: where our electricity comes from and how we heat our homes. For this to happen\, we’ll need to build public support and provide the backing our elected officials need to take bold action. \nJoin us at The Bookstore 5:30–7:00 p.m.) to learn more about what a just and low-emissions Vermont climate future could look like\, what stands in our way\, and what we can do to make it happen! Light snacks will be provided\, as well as masks.
